OUR ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

We know that being responsible for our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) responsibilities is a key part of our goal of providing a great service.

Our target is to reach Operational Net Zero by 2025.   We are driving carbon from our operations and minimising embedded carbon when constructing new buildings.   We aim to be sex, age, gender and colour-blind in our recruitment, are responsible in our employment practises and play an active role in the communities in which we operate.   ESG is a standing item discussed at every Board meeting.

Some of our current initiatives include:

  • We plant a tree for every service at two of our sites (Cannock Chase is excluded because the site has valuable grasslands which would be eroded by extensive tree planting).
  • We generate electricity from solar panels, provide EV charging in our car parks, recycle heat from our cremators and all our buildings are highly energy efficient.
  • Each site raises money for local charities which Horizon match funds. We also donate proceeds from a metal recycling scheme to local charities.

Our first ESG Report, measuring our base point performance and setting our objectives and targets is in preparation. Progress will be regularly monitored by independent consultants as we move towards 2025.
