Horizon Cremation submitted a planning application to Cannock Chase District Council for a new crematorium on the site of the old Bleak House Colliery between Heath Hayes and Norton Canes on 18th October.

The application follows a public consultation in September which saw nearly 300 people attend exhibitions of the plans. Of those who filled in questionnaires, 91% said that a crematorium is needed in the area.

Horizon had an overwhelming reaction from local people. Of course, some people have concerns, but the vast majority recognise it is needed and want it built quickly.

Cannock Crematorium would be a modest one-storey building taking the space of two and a half tennis courts. It would have a chapel for 90 people and 70 car parking spaces.

The building is designed to echo the industrial heritage of the area and fit into the 12-acre countryside site, which would include memorial gardens and areas for contemplation.
